Glitter

by Mike Harris, March 2008

Am9+E G

The (Am9+E) people gathered in the morning sun,
No-one said a word as the glitter (G) fell around,
Sent from heaven for to tell them that the (Am9+E) world had fallen in,
That God no longer cared about his (G) wayward children,
So they stood there open mouthed,
Then a second on you could hear the screaming of hysteria,
The panic on the faces they're just ordinary folk,
Not innocent, not guilty, they're just ordinary folk,
Like you and me, in fact, it could have been us.

And when I watch the footage of the people as they're jumping out,
From the fifty-first floor to their doom below,
I wonder what went through their minds as they hurtled through the air,
The faces of their loved ones?
They're just ordinary folk,
Not innocent, not guilty, but just ordinary folk,
Like you and me, in fact, it could have been us.

Alternative section:
(Gm) There's no reason to feel scared,
(F) There's no reason to fee lonely,
(E) They're coming to get you my love,
(E7) They're coming to get you honey,
(Gm) And there's nothing that you can do,
(F) And there's everything to tell,
(E) And to them your soul you'll sell,
(E7) Yes to them your soul you'll sell,
(Am) Standing proud, standing tall,
(G) They will make you feel so small,
(F#) And did you think you could escape?
(F#7) Did you feel it was all too late?
(E) (Bm) (G) -> (Am9+E)

The people gathered in the morning sun,
No-one said a word as the glitter fell around,
Sent from heaven for to tell them that the world had fallen in,
That God no longer cared about his wayward children,
So they stood there open mouthed,
And when I watch the footage of the lover as he holds his dying bride,
The wedding scene blown to smitherines,
I see him cry to recieve this wedding present from his dear old Uncle Sam,
And his kidly Auntie Rayceon,
I realise that we aren't so very different,
That all people feel pain,
And in this, my brothers, we are all the same,
And did we see the pictures on TV?
Did they make us feel?
Did they make us greive? (repeat last 3 lines x 4)
And those people on TV,
They're just like you,
They're just like me,
Just ordinary folk,
Not innocent, not guity, they're just ordinary folk,
Like you and me, in fact it could have been us,
In fact I know it was us,
In fact it really was us,

I died right there in the morning sun,
Noone said a word as the people gathered round,
My poor old body broken,
But my spirit flew, circling the peoples' heads,
And then I knew that I wasn't really dead and I could see,
Into the minds of everyone gathered over me,
And when I read their thoughts I saw that they were just ordinary folk,
Like you and me,
In fact, it really was us.
